The role of the universities - Vincent B. Leitch

The university, in particular, serves a dual function. As gatekeeper, it sorts students via grades, exams, course requirements, and so on, thereby limiting access to various cherished places in the social hierarchy, such as medical careers. At the same time the university undertakes funded research, thereby producing the knowledge through which populations are observed and managed.

  1. there is some understanding, I am trying to convey the negative use of the institutions in the name of civilization. For example, in many of the researches, funded by governmental agencies, the outcomes never released to common public.
